The Marion Twp Rural Fire Department is located on Hwy 37 on the north edge of the City of Mitchell.  We are contracted by the Marion and Bono Township Trustees to provide fire protection to the 100+ square miles of mostly rural area.  The Department currently has a full roster of 30 Firefighters and 6 Junior Fireman.  All members are volunteer and are required to attend a percentage of work sessions, training evolutions, and alarms to remain in good standing with the Department.  All members are required to obtain FFI and FFII certifications within the first year as a department member, and Driver/Operator certification prior to driving any Department vehicle.  Although EMS certification is not required at this time, we currently have 14 EMT's and 10 First Responders that respond with the local ambulance services to medical emergencies in Marion and Bono Townships.

2009 OFF TO A BUSY START
The members of the Marion Twp Fire Department are off to what appears to be another busy year.  With a record 718 runs logged for 2008 behinds us, the new year didn't bring a break in the action.  Currently the firefighters are averaging 3 runs per day and have extinguished 2 house fires within the first 19 days of the year.  As always the firefighters are constantly training to become the best Department we can and provide the best service to our Community.

2009 appears to be headed for another notable year, with information just received for another  possible grant award exceeding $100,000.00.  Check back soon for more information on the total amount of grant monies(approximately $400,000) for equipment purchases received in the last few years at  a very minimal cost to the Department and Community.
